SCRK- March 18th, 2012- AI Sol Blue in the raffle!

Hey Everyone,

The March meeting is schedule for next Sunday, March 18th @ 6pm. This month we are tying to step it up a little bit. Dan at Age of Aquariums is doing his best to find us a speaker, so more to come on that hopefully. Our Grand Prize in the raffle this month is a Aqua Illumination SOL Blue Module! donated by our sponsor, REEFGEEK.COM (http://www.reefgeek.com). Don’t forget that Reefgeek.com offers 11% off for SCRK members.

We would also like to announce that SCRK will have a booth at MAX on March 31/April 1, 2012. We could use a few volunteers to help set up the booth, frag tank, etc., as well as clean up and breakdown Sunday afternoon. Its a nice opportunity for our club to meet some new vendors and get some new members.

As usual we will have food and snacks (non-members are $5), and a member frag tank to buy, sell, or trade your corals (MUST be a member).

As always, please feel free to email any ideas, contacts, anything you think might better our club as we are all for it.

Hey Everyone!

This month we are having a summer potluck BBQ. If you could post what you can bring, appetizer, dessert, napkins… really anything you want to bring is OK. We already have the drinks covered, as well as meat for the grill.

We’ve made some progress getting club business taken care of the last few weeks and we plan to discuss these items with the members at the meeting.

As for the speaker this month we have Leng Sy of EcoSystem Aquariums!

Here is some info we received from Leng-

“Hello,

Have you ever wondered why fish have such vibrant colors and are healthier in the living coral reef aquariums? There are several reasons: First, corals can only thrive in a low nutrient, stable environment. Second, corals are filter feeders. They are natural predators of parasites that prey on fish. However, as you have been told over and over by your friends that you can’t have healthy live corals in an aquarium that house a lot of fish! That is what you have been told…until now.

With the EcoSystem Method of filtration, you now have the option of having a lot of fish in your reef aquarium. The question now is…what kind of reef aquarium would you like? A coral reef aquarium in which you have a lot of colorful corals and a lot of reef safe fish or a fish intensive reef aquarium in which you can have whatever fish you would like in the aquarium but with specific corals that fish either don’t like to eat or would grow fast. The followings are some possible corals that will thrive even in fish intensive aquarium when using the EcoSystem Method of filtration.
Next time I will share with you my initial finding about the possibility not to feed your marine fish as has been demonstrated in my experimental 400 gallon aquarium.

Thanks,
Leng Sy”

As always, there will be a raffle including some live goods and the member frag tank for buying, trading, or selling your corals. If you haven’t recieved your card or been getting the emails please let us know.
